What they are and how to activate hit range

In this article, we'll explain what achievement ranges are used, mainly, in goal contracts.

What are hit ranges?

In the goal contract strategy, it is common for companies to establish target ranges, that is, minimum and maximum limits that employees need to follow so that progress is accounted for.

For example, a company can define that the minimum value of the goals is 80 and the maximum 120. This means that the progress of the goals will only start to be counted, starting from the value 80 and only going up to 120, even if an employee manages to reach 150.

Despite being more common for the goals contract strategy, on the Elofy platform it is possible to activate them for the OKRs strategy as well.

In addition, we offer two types of activations:

  • Global achievement bands - which apply to all goals for all users and

  • Ranges of achievement by goals - with this option, it is possible to configure the ranges, individually, in each goal.

How to activate them on the Elofy platform?

The activation process is done on the OKRs settings screen.

Step 01

Go to Setup > Strategy Settings.

As mentioned earlier, you can choose to enable hit bands globally or by indicator.

➡️ Activate global achievement range: with this option, you define ranges that are valid for all goals of all users in the company.

  • Lower limit: This field defines the minimum % that the goal must reach for the value to be considered in the progress ruler.

    Example: if the value of 80% is placed in the lower limit and the target has only reached 40%, the ruler will remain at zero until it reaches 80%.

  • Intermediate limit: Normally, it is the closed value of the targets, in this case, 100%;

  • Upper limit: Goal progress only goes up to the number that has been entered in this field as a limit.

  • Example: if the value of 120% is entered in the progress limit and there is a goal in which the objective is 100, if 120 is measured, the indicator goes up to 120%, but if 150 is measured, for example, it will continue only going up to 120% even if the progress exceeds that.

When this option is activated, the appearance of the progress ruler for KRs and goals changes, as can be seen in the images below:

As can be seen in the example above, the values ​​are presented in percentage. Also, the colors shown are red for below baseline and green for above baseline.

Furthermore, in the general progress ruler, the user can see the limits adopted by the company:

*The score tab that will be displayed, in range of achievement per indicator, is not presented in global range. Thus, there is no way to know, visually, the exact value that the minimum and maximum limits represent in the users' goals.

➡️Activate achievement range by indicator: with this option activated, you can define your own achievement ranges for each employee's goal.

  • You can choose between a 5-note or a 3-note ruler;

  • After activating this option, you must go to "access profiles", in the OKRs section, and configure the "edit hit ranges" option.

  • You can define only the visualization or also the edition of the tracks. But if none is checked, users with the profile in question will not be able to see the score tab in the goals (which will be shown below):

After activating the option and configuring the access profile, you have access to configuring the target ranges in 3 ways:

  1. On the key results (in OKRs) or target creation screen (in target contracts);

  2. On the base indicator creation screen or via the base indicator import functionality;

  3. In the KR or goal details sidebar, via the queries screen, or within the details screen.

Regardless of the access method, the logic is the same: you define the ranges that each note on the ruler will represent. Thus, even if the tracks are in %, the progress ruler will be presented in notes, as shown in the image below:

When you define the ranges, in the third column you can see the exact value that each range represents, according to the final goal. You can directly modify the exact value instead of the percentage. One column will reflect on the other, see below:

Finally, it is important to mention that, as in the case of global bands, for bands by indicators, the appearance of the KRs and goals progress ruler changes, but as a differential:

a) For the option "ruler: 1,3,5", the colors of the ruler are: red, yellow and green;

b) For the option "ruler: 1,2,3,4,5", the ruler colors are: red and green.

🚨We recommend that the values ​​are not left at 0.00, regardless of the option activated, otherwise the progress of goals or KRs will not be counted.
